Product Safety Notice.
Every robot we sell is powerful, research grade machinery. It is not a toy and not a consumer appliance. Please read this notice before operating any Unitree robot, and make sure everyone who operates or approaches it reads it too.

For robot orders, these risks are also drawn specifically to your attention, and acknowledged in writing, in the Customer Awareness and Safe Operation Acknowledgement you sign with your order. This notice is part of our obligation under sections 49 and 58 of the Consumer Protection Act to warn about the risks of this kind of equipment. It does not take away any right you have under that Act.
1. Nature of the machine, please understand what you are buying
- This is a powerful, research grade robotic machine, not a toy and not a consumer appliance. Depending on the model it ranges from a benchtop robotic arm of a few kilograms to a mobile quadruped or humanoid of more than 60 kg. The mobile robots move quickly and all of them can exert significant force.
- It can move unexpectedly, fall over, or stop responding. This includes reasons such as software conditions, sensor limits, low battery, radio interference or loss of the control link. These behaviours can happen even when the robot is operated correctly.
- Moving joints create pinch and crush points. Contact with a moving or falling robot can cause serious injury.
- The lithium batteries can cause fire if damaged, punctured, stored incorrectly or charged with unapproved equipment.
- Onboard cameras and sensors record the surroundings. You are responsible for the lawful use of recordings, including compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
2. Mandatory safety rules
- Only trained adult operators may control the robot. Complete the orientation training provided at handover before first use.
- Keep all bystanders, especially children, outside a clear operating zone whenever the robot is powered. Never allow unsupervised interaction between the robot and children or members of the public.
- Keep the emergency stop within reach at all times, and test it before every session.
- Operate on suitable surfaces only. Check the environment for slopes, edges, obstacles and people before every session.
- Use only manufacturer-approved chargers, batteries and firmware. Do not modify or bypass safety functions.
- Install safety relevant firmware updates within a reasonable time of notification by MCM Robotics or the manufacturer.
- Public demonstrations, events or any crowd interaction require your own risk assessment and public liability insurance. The supply of a robot does not authorise unsafe public use.
3. Prohibited uses
The following uses are expressly prohibited: use as a weapon or to carry, mount or deploy any weapon; carrying people; use around unsupervised children; use in crowds without physical barriers and a documented risk assessment; operation by untrained or impaired persons; operation on public roads; modification of safety systems; and any unlawful use.
4. Batteries and charging
The robots use high capacity lithium batteries. Charge only with the supplied or manufacturer-approved charger, on a hard non-flammable surface, and never leave a charging battery unattended for long periods. Do not use a battery that is swollen, damaged or has been dropped. Store batteries in a cool, dry place. A damaged lithium battery can catch fire or release harmful gas.
5. Notes for specific platforms
The rules above apply to every model. The notes below highlight what is different about each family. They add to, and do not replace, the general rules.
Humanoid robots (G1, G1-D, H2, R1)
- Humanoids can lose balance and fall. Keep clear of a walking or balancing humanoid, and keep the operating zone free of people and obstacles.
- The arms and hands are strong and have many pinch points. Keep hands, hair, cables and loose clothing away from moving joints and grippers.
- The full size H2 is roughly 1.8 m tall and heavy. A fall or an arm movement at this scale can cause serious injury. Give it more clearance than a smaller robot.
- The G1-D is a dual arm data collection and manipulation platform on a fixed or wheeled base. It is not designed to walk, dance or perform, and it must not be used for crowd or event routines. Keep clear of the arms and, on the wheeled version, of the moving chassis.
Quadruped robots (Go2, Go2-W, B2, B2-W, B2-XF)
- Quadrupeds move fast and can change direction suddenly. Keep people out of the path of a moving robot and never stand where it could jump or step.
- The industrial B2, B2-W and B2-XF are large, powerful machines that carry heavy payloads. Treat them as industrial equipment and keep untrained people well clear.
- The B2-XF fire and rescue configuration can carry gas sensors, a thermal camera and a water cannon. Follow the specific operating and pressure instructions for any such payload, and never aim a water cannon at people.
- Wheeled models (Go2-W, B2-W) add rolling speed. Allow for longer stopping distances on smooth or sloped surfaces.
Robotic arms (Z1)
- A robotic arm can move quickly through a large reach. Keep the working envelope clear of people and obstacles, and know where the emergency stop is before you power it on.
- Grippers and tools can pinch, cut or crush. Fit and test tooling with the arm powered down where possible.
6. Cameras, recording and privacy
Robots carry cameras and sensors that record their surroundings. If you record people, you are responsible for doing so lawfully, including under POPIA. Tell people when they are being recorded where the law requires it, and store recordings securely.
7. If something goes wrong
Stop using the robot, make the area safe, and contact us at info@mcmrobotics.co.za or +27 44 878 2917. Report any safety incident to us so we can advise you and, if needed, pass it to the manufacturer. Keep the robot available for inspection if we or the manufacturer issue a safety bulletin or recall.
