At KragDag 2026, one of the biggest crowds on the MCM stand didn't gather around a diesel engine or a hydraulic bucket. It gathered around a four-legged robot. MCM Robotics — the official South African distributor of Unitree — brought the Go2 quadruped to Stand #2014, and from the moment it started to walk, it stopped people in their tracks.

KragDag 2026 ran from 6 to 8 August, bringing together agriculture, construction, technology, energy and entrepreneurship under one banner of practical, self-reliant South African innovation. It is exactly the kind of audience MCM Robotics wanted to meet — farmers, contractors and business owners who judge technology by one simple test: does it actually do the work?

Meet the Unitree Go2

The Go2 turned first-time robot encounters into the highlight of many visitors' day.

The Unitree Go2 is a compact quadruped robot built around highly dynamic electric actuators, advanced onboard computing and real environmental perception. Depending on configuration, it carries Unitree's wide-field 4D LiDAR system together with an HD camera, letting it sense and respond to the world around it rather than simply following a pre-set path.

At roughly 15 kg and about 70 × 31 × 40 cm standing, the Go2 is compact and genuinely portable, and agile enough to trot, climb, balance and recover its footing on uneven ground. It is a genuine robotics platform in a package that feels approachable — which is precisely why it works so well in front of a live audience.

The Reaction: It Made People Stop

Specifications explain what the Go2 is. They don't explain what happened on the stand.

For most KragDag visitors, a walking robot is something seen on a screen — on YouTube, on the news, at overseas technology shows. Seeing one move naturally amongst people, in a field in South Africa, changes that completely. It stops being a video and becomes something standing right in front of you.

Children led the way, as they always do. They reached out, walked alongside it, laughed when it stepped sideways to keep its balance, and asked the questions the adults were quietly thinking too. Parents crouched down next to them. Contractors who had spent the morning comparing loaders and excavators found themselves filming a robot dog on their phones.

That reaction is the point. Robotics only becomes real once you can stand next to it, and KragDag gave thousands of South Africans that first-hand moment.
